Daniela's story: Each day is intense, dynamic and demanding in a unique way

  • Oct. 20, 2021

Before joining Sodexo, I worked in hotels and restaurants, in cities such as Temuco and Concepcion, in Chile, as a part-time chef.

I joined Sodexo as a chef 20 years ago and have had the opportunity to work in a variety of business environments over the years from education, public and private healthcare, to now working in the kitchens for corporate offices. I’ve also supported with some major events such as the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 and the Dakar Rally each year from 2014 - 2018 as well as collaborated with the Sodexo teams in Argentina and Peru.

I have just started a new role as contract administrator. I’m incredibly excited about this new challenge.

No two days are the same

The part I love most about my role is teaching others. Sharing my knowledge and giving colleagues the support, they need to pursue a career with Sodexo as well as create a better quality of life for themselves and their families.

I also love that no two days are the same. Each day is intense, dynamic and demanding in a unique way. I love the daily challenge.

I don’t have a signature dish, but I love to prepare the traditional dishes and delicacies of my home country. A delicious casserole, empanadas, chupe de jaivas or corn pie. I love to create these traditional flavors and introduce them to new people.

Finding my perfect balance

The biggest challenge I’ve faced in my career so far is becoming a mother. The additional responsibilities in my personal life shortened the amount of time I was able to spend working and made it difficult to balance my work and personal priorities. However, with the support of key people in my life and good organization, I’ve now been able to find my balance. I am now mother to two beautiful children; they fill my life with laughter and happiness.

I love working alongside a diverse range of people of different genders and from different backgrounds. I feel that my workplace is truly inclusive.

My life moto is: “Don’t be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try”

I believe that the secret to a successful culinary career is discipline, concentration and willingness to change. All these attributes must be combined with a good plan, empathy and of course teamwork!
